This is a rare balsam circulated amongst collectors and is not available in nurseries locally.
Unlike most balsam, it can grow to a small tree proportion and has a caudex like the Adenium obesum.
It is amenable to home balcony culture provided there is bright light for a few hours. Need a free draining medium and moderate watering to prevent rotting.
This is a photo of an adult plant. Notice the very long flower stalk.
This is a closeup of the flower. Notice the curly tail and a split lip.
Most flowers are pink but yellow is not uncommon. Very rarely, bright red may be found.
This is an example of the seedling available for sale. The spread is more than 20cm. Plant is already established in clay pot.
Suitable for experienced growers or gardeners keen to try something new and unusual - definitely a talking point for visitors if well grown.
